Sherry's Edmund Scientific Astroscan 2000 telescope projecting the partial phases of the eclipse, in Keeney Meadows, OR.
We met our friend, Derek and his dog Lilly in the meadows.
Doom and gloom and Armageddon was predicted, so we brought 7 gallons of extra gas. This is after the eclipse, and Joe is filling the van.
Saturday morning, August 19, sunrise at 6:45 AM, taken through the van window, leaving our northern CA campsite on our way to Oregon.
Sunday August 20, setting up the telescope in the meadow.
Sunday, August 20, testing out projecting the image of the sun on the screen.
The projection is large enough to see sunspots. This is the day before, so no eclipse yet.
Curious people come around. We share ideas, ask questions.
Where we camped in Keeney Meadow, Oregon. Our van, and Derek's van behind.
Derek photo bombing Joe's pic of our campsite.
Setting up on the sturdy table for eclipse day. Early. Need sun protection.
Working out the plan.
Sherry takes this seriously.
We met lots of really nice, like-minded people. Everyone socializes during the partial phases. Our setup made for a good photo op.
August 21, first contact. Note you can still see the sunspots.
Everyone loved sharing their eclipse experience.
Taking it through the partial phases.
The moon takes a bigger bite.
A broader view of our setup.
The moon has eaten up the sun spots.
Lots of new friends were made, to meet again at the next eclipse!
More than half gone.
Photos through a welder's glass on a camera appear to be a mirror image. In reality, this is correct. The Projected image on the Astroscan screen are backwards.
The crescent sun.
The crescent sun looks green as seen through a welder's glass on a camera.
Getting cold and dark now. Sherry put on her jacket.
To shoot partial phases through a camera, never use anything less than a #14 welder's glass.
Almost gone. I did see Baileys beads projected on the screen, before looking at totality.
Joe took an awesome photo of the sun's corona.
And another beautiful corona shot by Joe.
Totality is over, this is a shot of the partial on the other side.
Coming out the other side.
Vance, Robert, Sasquatch, Mike, and Elizabeth enjoying a libation on Eclipse Eve.
We saw many wonders on this trip!
Never thought I'd see BigFoot, too, on this trip!
Sasquatch is a blond!
When the costume came off, there was a large hairy beast inside! A wonderful, magical time was had by all! See you in 2024!
